Auoda Workshop Linz

28. – 30. Nov. 2008

What abilities does the Auoda prototype suit need to have, as soon as we start using it in the Artic? How can we manage to put all the electronic devices in it without overloading the suit and therefore surcharge the astronaut? How do we find the right spot for drilling and how do we avoid contaminating the samples?

Meeting in St. Florian in Linz from 28th to 30th of October 2008 in St. Florin near Linz, a team of 11 PolAres members met up to answer these questions. We structured the first and most important steps of the Auoda program to get a clear view on what we need to concentrate on. The group leaders of the subsystems provided a short overview and input for the other teams to further discuss operations and experiments. We managed to accomplish a production timeline of the suit and discussed certain problems that emerged while developing procedures such as the engineering of the on-board data handling, the power system of the suit, as well as concepts for planetary protection.

Beside intense work sessions, we enjoyed ourselves in good company during meals with our hosts Christine and Gerhard Grömer. Thank you very much for your kindness!
